Periodic Dental Check-up
To keep your teeth and gums as healthy as possible, we recommend visiting our dental practice every six months. By checking the condition of your teeth, gums and overall oral health, we can detect potential dental problems at an early stage and help prevent them. The periodic check-up is combined with a professional dental cleaning. During this appointment, we remove tartar and thoroughly clean and polish your teeth. During a periodic dental check-up, your dentist inspects and analyses the health of your teeth, molars and gums.

What to expect during a periodic check-up
The best way to prevent dental problems is by maintaining good oral hygiene and proper dental care. The standard combined appointment for a dental check-up and cleaning takes 40 minutes. At the start of the appointment, your dentist will examine your mouth to identify any potential issues. The second part of the appointment consists of a professional dental cleaning performed by one of our dental hygienists.
Step 1: Dental examination
To detect and treat dental issues in time, the dentist will carefully examine your teeth, molars and gums during this check-up. They will check for cavities and assess whether your teeth and gums are in good overall condition. Dental problems that are detected early can usually be treated quickly and easily. If the issue is more complex, a separate treatment appointment may be required. In most cases, this can be scheduled with your own dentist. If necessary, we can refer you to a specialist.
Step 2: Professional dental cleaning
Professional dental cleaning by our prevention assistants or dental hygienists is an essential part of preventing dental problems and maintaining good oral health. During the cleaning, plaque, tartar and surface stains are removed. Your teeth are then polished to provide a protective finish.
In addition, you will receive brushing instructions and dietary advice for maintaining healthy teeth, as well as information about the causes of dental conditions and cavities. These recommendations contribute to excellent oral health.
What does your health insurer reimburse?
For children up to the age of 18, periodic dental check-ups are covered by the basic health insurance package. After the age of 18, coverage varies per insurance provider: some insurers reimburse periodic check-ups, while others do not. To be certain, we recommend contacting your health insurer in advance to check whether your treatment is covered.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to come in every six months for a check-up?
You may choose to visit the dentist only when you experience dental issues. Although periodic dental check-ups are not mandatory, we strongly recommend them. If problems are not detected in time, treatment can become much more complicated. In severe cases, this may even lead to tooth loss. Early detection is key.
What is the purpose of a periodic check-up?
Of course, it is important to identify dental problems as early as possible. However, a periodic check-up also plays a key role in prevention. By detecting irregularities or abnormalities early, we can act quickly if related issues arise.
How much time should I allow for the appointment?
During a periodic dental check-up, the dentist examines your teeth, molars and gums for potential issues. This usually takes about 10 minutes. When combined with a professional dental cleaning by the dental hygienist, the total appointment time is approximately 40 minutes.
Can I eat and drink normally afterwards?
After a standard check-up, you can resume your normal daily activities. Sensitive teeth may occasionally occur after an intensive dental cleaning, but this usually subsides quickly. You can eat and drink normally straight away, and brushing your teeth is not a problem. The only exception is a fluoride treatment. In that case, it is necessary to avoid all food and drinks for the first hour after the treatment.
