Periodic check-up

Periodic check-up

To keep your teeth as healthy as possible, we advise you to visit the dental practice every six months. By checking the health of your molars, gums and teeth, we can detect and help prevent any oral and dental problems in a timely manner. The periodic check-up is combined with dental cleaning. During this treatment we remove tartar and clean and polish your teeth. During a periodic dental check-up, your dentist inspects and analyzes the health of your teeth, molars and gums.

What occurs during a periodic check-up?

Dental problems are best prevented with good oral hygiene and correct dental care. The standard combined appointment for dental check-up and dental cleaning takes 40 minutes. To detect any dental problems, your mouth will be checked by our dentist at the start. The second part of the treatment consists of a dental cleaning by one of our dental hygienists.

Step 1: Dental check-up

In order to detect and treat dental problems in a timely manner, the dentist will analyze your teeth, molars and gums during this check-up. He checks for cavities and whether your teeth are otherwise in good condition. Dental problems identified in time can usually be resolved easily and quickly. If the problem is more complicated, you can schedule an appointment for separate additional treatment. You can most likely contact your own dentist at our practice for this. If necessary, we can refer you to a specialist.

Step 2: Dental cleaning

Dental cleaning by our prevention assistants or dental hygienists is an essential part of preventing dental problems and maintaining your oral health. During this cleaning, plaque, tartar and deposits are removed. Your teeth will then receive a protective polish.

In addition, you will receive brushing instructions and nutritional advice for healthy teeth and additional information about the causes of conditions and cavities. This advice contributes to excellent oral health.

What is reimbursed by your health insurer?
For children up to the age of 18, the periodic check-up is reimbursed from the basic package of your health insurer. After that, the coverage varies per health insurance policy: some insurers will reimburse your periodic check-ups, others will not. To be on the safe side, ask your insurer in advance whether your treatment will be reimbursed.

The most important questions at a glance

Do I have to come for a check-up every six months?
You can choose to only come by if you have dental complaints. Although a periodic dental check-up is not mandatory, we still highly recommend it. If problems are not identified in time, it can become a lot more difficult to solve them. In severe cases, this can lead to the loss of your teeth. So do have regular check-ups!

What is the use of a periodic check-up?
Of course, it is important to identify problems with your teeth as soon as possible. But a periodic check also contributes to the prevention of problems. By immediately detecting peculiarities and anomalies, we are also more likely to respond to related complaints.

How much time should I allow for the check-up?
During the periodic dental checkup, the dentist checks your molars, gums and, of course, your teeth for possible symptoms. This usually takes about 10 minutes. In combination with dental cleaning by the dental hygienist, it is best to allow for 40 minutes in total.

Afterwards, can I eat and drink anything I like?
After a standard checkup, you can simply resume your day. Sensitive teeth occasionally occur after a vigorous dental cleaning. This does not last long. Moreover, you may immediately consume all food and beverages. Brushing your teeth is also no problem. An exception is treatment using fluoride. In that case, it is necessary to refrain from all drinks and food for the first hour after the treatment.
